SEI Investigator from University of Buffalo Seeks Cause, Novel Therapy for Diabetic Retinopathy
Sarah X. Zhang, MD is using a $1.1 million grant to study a possible mechanism underlying diabetic retinopathy and test a novel protective agent to thwart it.
SEI Investigator Inducted into the ARVO Dowling Society
Dr. William J. Brunken was inducted May 4, 2013 into The Dowling Society which was created to honor innovative vision researcher and first Chairman of the ARVO Foundation Board of Governors, John E. Dowling, PhD, FARVO. This distinguished donor society was established to recognize Dowling for his accomplishments within the ARVO Foundation, ARVO and the vision research community.
Dr. William J. Brunken and Dr. Steven J. Fliesler are now serving on ARVO Committees. Dr. Fliesler will chair the Publications Committee until May 2015. Dr. Brunken will be a member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee until May 2016.
The keynote speaker for this year's meeting will be Martin Friedlander, MD, PhD. Dr. Friedlander is a Professor in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at The Scripps Research Institute. In addition, Dr. Friedlander is an alumni of Downstate Medical Center.
